Batuba, an African chiId of the Beti tribe, grows up in the remote rain forest village of Biyen. He meets the rest of the world when he travels to the big city to persue university studies, aIl the while longing for simple and genuine life of his beloved Biyen. He returns after graduation to find that "progress"- that is the unrelenting love of quick profit- has destroyed what he holds dearest: his land. His cry of deep anger and frustration, his path of physical and emotional, psychological and spiritual growth resonates with many of the readers who have experienced similar changes and emotions. The novel is a coming-of-age-novel, Batuba's world is everyone's world. He wishes to bring innovation to his land but do so with respect for tradition and nature-as aIl ofus do!

Dr. Antoneya Marie Ngono was born in Cameroon in 1960.In 1987, she graduated in Natura! Sciences at the University of Yaounde. She is fluent in Italian, French and English. She taught Natura! Sciences and mathematics in cameroon for several years before moving to Italy, in 1993, as the beneficiary of a student visa, to persue her degree in Pharmacy at the University of Padua. She graduated in 1998 and has since been a pharmacist in that area. Dr. Ngono has built in Germany and Ita!y a network of volunteers who, like her, are committed to support and improve living conditions in her country.
